SILKY LIFT / Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy
Aging of human skin results from a combination of a gradual decline in function over time (intrinsic aging) and cumulative damage caused by environmental factors (extrinsic aging), which include smoking, exposure to chemicals, and notably, ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation.
You may be interested in knowing that Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy was first developed for orthopaedic surgery & Neurosurgery for early healing of wound from surgery or trauma by the promotion of clotting and healing.
Cosmetic practitioners have dubbed the aesthetic facial treatment the Vampire Facelift and it’s recently become a global hit. In this treatment, the platelet-rich plasma is injected into the patient’s face to address wrinkles or folds, and improve the overall skin condition. The Platelet Rich Plasma encourages the skin to produce collagen and added growth factors. These, in turn, lead to a more supported skin structure. This makes skin appear fuller, tighter and more youthful. From our own respective experience the results can vary from the subtle extra youth boost to the extremely more younger looking skin.
The benefits of the Platelet Rich Plasma treatment or Vampire Facelift have been well publicized in the media. However, media reports can be filled with misinformation or distorted facts. It is important to understand just how the treatment works.
The Platelet Rich Plasma is not a surgical procedure. It is an injection treatment done in the physician’s office with no downtime, just like Botox and fillers.
1. Step 1 – The patient’s face is cleaned and the local anesthesia is applied.
2. Next, the physician or nurse withdraw blood.
3. The drawn blood is then sent for processing that includes centrifugation-separation-activation, PRP and PPP were prepared using a double-spin method exclusively performed & platelet-rich-plasma is activated in a special process developed by Antiaging Skin Clinic to release at growth factors like platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor (TGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF), are secreted from the α-granules of concentrated platelets to enhance its healing properties before injection.
4. Before injection, a numbing cream is applied to the skin. Once injected the growth factors in the Platelet Rich Plasma causes the release of stem cells that already exist in the skin. They trick the skin into thinking it needs to heal itself – new tissue is produced with new collagen, and new blood vessels.
Who is a Candidate for Platelet Rich Plasma?
Almost anyone can be a candidate for the Platelet Rich Plasma treatment. It is natural since it comes from the patient’s own body.
Recovery from PRP
Platelet Rich Plasma injection requires little recovery time and usually no downtime at all. On the first day after treatment there may be some redness. On the second day the redness usually subsides and the skin may swell and the texture may become rough like sandpaper. By the third day, the swelling should be gone leaving just the sandpaper-like texture for 5 to 7 days.
The Result
Patients report skin that appears more youthful and rejuvenated which continues to improve over the first three months after treatment. The results can then last up to two years from the date of treatment.
While PRP is relatively new to the cosmetic medicine world, its future is promising. Like with any medical treatment, it is important to ensure that your medical practitioner is well-qualified and experienced in the procedure.
